Academic anxiety is a well-established, significant predictor of academic performance. Students with high levels of anxiety are unable to perform at the best of their ability. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of academic anxiety and its effects on academic performance and explore if social and family sources of anxiety have effects on academic performance. This was a cross-sectional study design utilising questionnaire based on pre-validated tools was used to determine the extent of academic anxiety and evaluate its effect on students with high and low academic performance.

Purposive sampling techniques were used to select respondents comprising of male and female students in the study area respectively. Results obtained revealed that there is no significant difference between male and female students on causes as well as effects of examination anxiety regarding their academic performance.
Based on the findings, the study recommended that counsellors as well as other educators should create enabling learning environment for students free of tension and unnecessary stress so as to minimize anxiety and amongst others.

Test anxiety can be associated with poor academic performance. Aim: This study investigated the relationship between test anxiety and academic performance in female nursing students of Najafabad Islamic Azad University. Method: In this descriptive-analytic study, female nursing students in second to sixth semester were selected in Academic performance calculated by overall mean the scores in the past semesters. An open-ended questionnaire was developed to gather retrospective descriptions of test-taking strategies used in working classroom exam questions. Responses were independently rated on a 3-point scale of effectiveness based on the degree to which subjects' strategies matched methods recommended by experts in remedial education. Reliability estimates were very adequate and the QHTT was unrelated to verbal ability and sex. Subsequently, the QHTT was used as a dependent measure to assess the degree to which lack of confidence high text anxiety in evaluative situations is related to deficits in test-taking strategies. Subjects with high and moderate levels of general test anxiety evidenced significantly less effective problem-solving strategies than low-anxiety subjects.
